The Woman’s Earth Supports Black Maternal Health

Holi Mamma Grant Program Benefitting Birthing Black Mothers

Black women are three to four times more likely to experience a pregnancy-related death than white women. Holi Mamma is our community initiative in doing our part to address this alarming statistic.  Holi Mamma offers grants to fund Birth Doula Services for black birthing mothers.A Doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

Studies on the effectiveness of doula care conclusively demonstrate that women who are supported by a doula during labor and childbirth are less likely to require a cesarean birth or use pain medication, and more likely to give birth spontaneously, have a shorter labor, and feel satisfied with their birthing experience. By reducing the need for medical interventions such as cesarean births, doulas help mitigate the potentially severe complications associated with risky interventions. For example, complications such as death, cardiac arrest, blood clots, and infections are three times more common following a cesarean birth. Babies born via cesarean birth are also more likely to experience health problems including asthma, Crohn’s disease, and allergies.

Support Black Birthing Mothers by donating to the Holi Mamma Grant Program

The Holi Mamma Grant Program gives Black Mothers who are in need access to the benefits of Birth Doula services. We collaborate with a team of passionate and experienced Doulas from our community who curate sacred spaces for mothers and birth workers to learn, connect and receive support.
